A moment in bloom :: my summer

I look back at my last blog post from June, my manifesto, and where I was at that point in the year. It feels like such a long time ago and an extended summer break from this space that I love. I’m gradually heading back as I come out of a full few months of completing once in a lifetime experiences that I will treasure… As I sit here writing this in our attic room I can see evidence of what the summer has been for me this year. There are beautiful origami cranes, delicately strung on fishing line waiting to […]

Living my Spring Manifesto

  With each season comes with it something new, a new chapter. My word this year is Awaken. I decided that I wanted to awaken more of a connection to the seasons than I have done before, awaken more awareness and awaken my senses. In January I started a new seasonal practice of creating and sharing my seasonal manifesto. Over the past few months I’ve been connecting with my spring manifesto. With the signs of summer appearing around me I wanted to share with you what I have brought into my life recently during the spring months…

My Spring Manifesto

Each season brings with it something new, a new chapter. I take real pleasure from noticing the changes and love the blurry edges to the seasons as they move to the next. My word this year is Awaken and with this in mind I have decided that I want to awaken more of a connection to the seasons than I have done before. I want to awaken more awareness and I want to awaken my senses. To help me achieve this I’m writing a manifesto for each season of the year. A manifesto for me is a statement that pulls together my thoughts […]

Inspired by… A Playful Day podcast

I’ve been listening to A Playful Day podcast for just over a year, I adore my weekly date with this podcast and it has become one of my favourite things to listen to. There are very few British podcasts that I listen to that I love so much and that I am really inspired by. With season one of the new-look podcast recently completed, I thought it would be a great time to share it with you so that you can catch up on the wonderful content over this rainy May bank holiday weekend…

Musings :: thoughts from the past year…and plans for the year ahead

  I’m writing this on the day before my birthday, taking a little time for quiet contemplation and reflection. As I grow older the years begin to merge and time seems to pass, and so for me taking a moment to sit back and reflect is important. Like the blossom in this photo, this year I’ve felt that I’ve come out of a hibernation that I have been in for a few years and have started to awaken from a slumber. Whilst sitting at the train station this morning I was overcome with thoughts and reflections on the year that has been, and […]

In our garden :: April

Ooh at last the sun is out, the warmth of spring has arrived and it’s time to get back out into the garden. With the draw of the wonderfully sunny warm weather last weekend my mind has been dreaming of what our garden will produce this year. Last summer we bought a greenhouse and this is my first time I’ve had to make the most of it during spring. A few weeks ago I spent a Sunday afternoon weeding our garden, preparing the raised beds, tidying our greenhouse and setting up our garden space for a season of planting. One hour […]

Looking back at my winter manifesto

In January I started a new seasonal practice of creating and sharing my seasonal manifesto. With each season it brings with it something new, a new chapter. My word this year is Awaken. I decided that I wanted to awaken more of a connection to the seasons than I have done before, awaken more awareness and awaken my senses. I take real pleasure from noticing the changes that happen and love the blurry edges of the seasons as they move from one to the next. Over the past few months I’ve been connecting with my winter manifesto, sometimes documenting it through […]

Awakening…

Like the blossom on trees and spring flowers starting to appear, my time of dormancy is coming to an end. It’s time to awaken…You may have noticed that I’ve been a little quiet over here and there are good reasons for that. I made the decision to take advantage of winter, the time of year when hibernation is part of the natural seasonal cycle. Hibernation brings with it the chance to focus energy where it is needed most. Perhaps for me this winter has meant a focus of energy on my roots, of who I am, what I do and what […]

From the bookshelf :: 16 brilliant books for 2016

  One of my favourite things is sitting down to read. Like many people it’s a way to escape but also for me it is one of the best ways to learn and discover more. Taking the time to savour the sculpted journey created by an author’s words, absorbing the content, and enjoying the main message from cover to cover is one of my simple pleasures. I fit in reading a book where I can, whether its my 15 minutes during my commute to work on the train or snuggling into a blanket with a cup of chai tea in hand […]

Inspired by…A wall of feel good messages

Wherever I have lived I have always tried to create a space that shows elements of my personality and inspires me. Throughout university I decorated my bland walls with colour and images that spoke to me, creating a space that that reminded me of what I love and things that made me smile. I clearly remember a motivational board that I put together in a clip frame at university that came with me everywhere I lived. I’m spending a few hours today in my creative space and I wanted to share with you my inspiring wall of feel good messages that […]
