Memory Keeping in 2013 :: Project Life

Today is the final day of 2013 and I can’t believe we only have a few hours left of this year. Each New Year’s Eve I like to take time to think about the year. I dedicate quite a bit of time to reflection and I really look forward to it. I use a couple of different ways to think about and review the year, and a number of ways of planning for what I hope to achieve in the new year. Over the next few days I’ll share these with you. My New Year’s Eve ritual is all about reflecting […]

Documenting my Christmas :: December Daily

During the month of December I try to capture the Christmas countdown in detail taking photos each day. Last December I made a big effort to take photos during the month and added them to my Project Life folder along with some of Shimelle’s Journal Your Christmas journalling prompts, this worked well and I loved thinking back to memories of Christmas. This year I decided to join in with Ali Edwards and complete a December Daily album. December Daily is a memory keeping album project that documents every day up until Christmas. I decided to use my Project Life binder and page protectors, rather than […]

Handmade Christmas Cards

For a number of years I have made my own Christmas cards for my family and friends. The process of making has become a bit of a tradition in itself. Last year I made Christmas cards (take a look at my handmade Christmas cards here) and they were quite involved, so with everything going on this year I decided to make things slightly easier for myself and create a set of card designs focusing on the patterned paper rather than Christmas shapes. I made 47 cards in total this year, and luckily I didn’t have to post them all! I […]

Handmade Patchwork Christmas Stocking

A Christmas stocking was something I had when I was younger and was a real tradition. I’ve been lusting after having one for a few years now so I decided the make one with my new patchwork skills that I taught myself earlier this year. I decided to set myself a bit of a sewing Christmas challenge and make one if I had time. This weekend I’ve been tied to my sewing machine, determined to make the patchwork stockings in time for Christmas day. This morning I finished one for Mr C and one for myself, I cant tell you how […]

Photography :: my summer photo collage

I take a camera everywhere I go, whether it’s my iPhone, my trusty compact Canon S95, the more beefy Nikon D80 or my newest addition my Diana F+, I am always looking to capture photos to document what I have been up to. I have photo albums full of photos I took at university with my Pentax film camera and have thousands of digital photos stored on my external hard drive from the years since graduating. I love looking back at the trips I’ve taken, special times with friends and sometimes those odd days out where I’ve spotted something I like […]

Handmade and stitched with love – My first quilt

You may have wondered where I’ve been for a few weeks! Well, life took over a little…as did finishing my top secret project! I’m delighted to let you know that today I can do the big reveal… Since April I’ve been working hard to create my first quilt! Inspired by the taster day I did at the start of the year, and making the quilted sewing machine cover for my Mum, I fancied making a quilt on a bigger scale. It was a huge challenge for me and I had to do quite a bit of research before I got stuck […]

My fabric stash grows…a new project begins!

Over the past few months I’ve found that my love of colour, patterned fabric and hand made things has massively grown. Everywhere I look, whether it is a magazine, fabric shop or even online, I think about how I want to inject my home with more pattern and handmade things. To brighten up rainy lunch hours I have taken to going to my local fabric shop and looking at all the fabrics I could use and adding a few pieces to my fabric stash. I’ve added to my collection and now have about 40 fat quarters of different fabrics!! A little […]

The year of change…a new chapter begins!

I love autumn, a season of change and the chance to learn something new. The year so far has brought plenty of changes in my life and it is now about to change even more… In January I put my job and career on hold for three months and went travelling. It had been an important goal of mine for a number of years. During the trip I went out of my comfort zone, took on new challenges and saw so many fantastic places. Whilst I was away I had time to reflect, being away from my normal routine and the […]
